Socialization is an important part to raising a well-adjusted puppy. Our friends told us that we should try to introduce our schnauzer to 100 dogs and 100 people as fast as possible. At first thought I was a little concerned about that goal because he has not had all of his shots yet, and I worried about Kaiser catching something from another dog. But, after watching enough Dog Whisperer we’re believers that introducing your dog to a new dogs it very critical to it’s development.
When Kaiser first met dogs outside of his parents and litter he was very nervous and cried when our friends french bulldog puppies – Chubs and Tink - wanted to play with him. Kaiser warmed up after about thirty minutes which was a good sign. A few days later we brought our dogs together again and Kaiser was much more social and actually seemed confident.
Introducing our schnauzer to other dogs and people at the park and while walking around the neighborhood has had a positive effect on Kaiser, and he is no longer just barking at random people when they pass by on a walk.
